Well it has been a while between updates, and thats because there hasn't been much to update. I've been waiting for a small stack of new stock to arrive from the small but extreamly talented crew of shapers that i deal with. There's fish, quads and the new nano fish coming from Van Straalen, quads, sea sticks and dt's coming from Dain Thomas at sea surfboards and a good sprinkling from others. So for those that have been waiting for these to arrive just hold on for a bit longer, and for those who couldn't wait and ordered customs thanks.
Anyway as i have new stock ready to come through and limited space on Surf Culture's racks, i need to clear some of the stock i have there that has been hanging around for a while, there are pictures below and you'll need to contact me directly if your interested in anything, via email which is ben@sixounceboardstore.com.au or on my mobile 0408 259783.
5'10" Van Straalen Aviso rocket fish, the price on these are usually $1900 and with the aussie dollar heading south bound the price on these suckers has increased by about $300 i'm letting this one go for $1250, if you do the maths thats pretty fucking good.
5'10" x 20 1/2" x 2 5/8" Sea Surfboards dt model was sitting on the rack for $1300 now she needs to find a new home, you can pick her up for $800.
6'6" x 20 3/8" x 2 1/2" Takayama retro pin single fin rack price was $1170, if you want to feel the 70's under your feet she's going for $750.
7'0" x 21 1/4" x 2 5/8" Takayama egg, smooth, smooth ride was $1195 now $750.
The Bing sycronizer at 6'2" x 21" x 2 5/8" with both sets of fins so she can be ridden as a quad or a 5 fin bonzer, fully imported from the states she retails at $1620, i'm spewin i've gotta move this one there's only a couple of these in oz and she's now $1000.
7'6" x 21" x 2 3/4" Bear Paul Hutchinson baby squash tail mini mal was $995 now $750.
There are about eight more i have to post but the kids need some food and attention so i better get off the computer.
stay tuned

The circus may have left town but the show goes on as six ounce goes into it's temporary online form with a pending announcement of a new retail outlet expected in the next couple of weeks. I still have new boards turning up even if they are being photographed in my backyard and lovingly stored in my storage shed. There's still some old stock around going at sale prices i will include an updated list at the end of this post, and as said before if your after a custom order let me know.
Here's a couple of boards that turned up from the boys at Socal surfboards who are importing boards from the states, i got a couple of Bings in the first batch, this one is a 6'10" Bing karma, with the bullshit tint and pigment work.
It comes with an 8 1/2" liddle flex fin, to help winding up those turns.
Ans the very special 6'2" Bing sycronizer at 21" wide and 2 5/8" thick what a colour and what a finish.
The surprise is in the bottom it comes with two sets of fins so it can be surfed as a 5 fin bonzer, a quad or as a 2+1, now thats tricky.

Come and get it!! So here it is the last hurrah before Six Ounce goes strickly online, i've decided to pack up the store at the end of the month, which means i've still got a bunch of stock to get through so i don't have to move it and it's going for a steal. I'm going to be opening the store on thursday, friday and saturday to clear the decks and next week i'm gonna be clearing out my space, which if i had time, i'd be getting misty about it and sheding the odd man tear, it has been a great five years in this hole in the wall, but i'm getting excited about mine and six ounce's next step. If your around pop on in and if your interested in anything drop me a line, i have updated the new board stock list which is two post's below and if i get a chance i'll post a list of the used boards i have. Once again thanks to all for supporting Australian made surfboards and independant surf retail and keep your eyes on this space for my new concept. And by the way i'm still taking custom orders so if you want anything you know what to do.

Just to keep wetting your fibreglass fix here's my 6'2" bonzer five egg shaped by Malcolm Campbell, she's a peach hey.

Well haven't i got chins wagging, from internet forums, to phone calls from suppliers, loyal customers with tears in their eyes, to magazine editors, to website trawling freaks, everyone has been expressing their dismay at the passing of something special. But Six Ounce is way to precious to me to let it fall by the wayside, i have had to have a sale to get rid of heaps of stock, i may have to move premises, but what i promise is that Six Ounce will not die, i will not let a seriously fucked economy, an apathetic surfing community, surfing media outlets that promote soul distroying cheaply made slave labour surf craft or my strange way of running a business send me under. I will keep everyone posted of my movements, the website is the main format of Six Ounce that i will keep running and i'm currently looking at a couple of options to keep a retail presence open for Six Ounce in the eastern suburbs. In saying that i still have stock to shed to keep the boat afloat, i have updated the list below as to what new boards are still around and this weekend i'm gonna try my hardest to clear all my used boards and clothing out of the shop. So....
ALL USED BOARDS SAVAGELY REDUCED
ALL SHORTS AND TEE'S SUPER CHEAP
RASHIE'S DISCOUNTED
AND STILL THE REDUCED PRICES ON NEW BOARDS
So swing by this weekend and snavel up a bargin and help me keep this moving, to everyone thats grabbed a board in the last couple of weeks thanks for your support and i hope to see or hear from the rest of you fuckers this weekend.

Couple of Sea double flyer quads heading to the UK, how sweet do these suckers look.
A hot little 6'0" full single concave egg for the enigma that is Melvin the Bondi board hogg.
Here's a couple of Takayama quads that were popular over summer these are 5'5" and 5'10".
Hows this planshape another filth one by the hand of Paul Hutchinson from Bear. It's 8'0" by the way.
And the ever present Bear Wombat, you ride em short and wanna go long or you like em long and wanna go short, then bow before your master.

How fucked are computers? I've been trying to get my site updated for about a week and she just kept going down on me. You would think that i would have more to say as it's been a while since my last update but no such luck. I'll think up something witty or some small piece of prose littered with swearing in the next few days and do another update. Here's some fresh meat for those who hunger the fibreglass flesh.....
A sweet pair of Mackie fish at 5'11" and 5'9".
Here's something sporty a 5'7" x 19 3/4' x 2 5/16" Mackie rocket fish.
Here's a varation of a theme a Rabbidge micro with a single flyer swallow just to make the tail a little more lively, the guy can shape up anything.
Simon Jones of Morning of the Earth just keeps pumping out the goods here's a 6'6" flyer quad with a great sky blue tint.
One for you bargin hunters out there here's a 5'10" Sea DT model that got a small shatter in the rail in a small board falling over incident in the shop, their worth $1300 i'm letting this one go for $1100, so drop me a line if your keen.

Lets start with a little negativity, this is a message to the fucking arse wipe that stole 2 boards and 2 wettie's out of my car last week, "may the boards never work for you and i hope your cock falls off from wearing my wetsuits", seriously what a low act. If anyone see's a 7'3" Billy Hamilton bat tail quad with a blue and purple fade and a 6'0" egg with orange and green tint and pigment work on the deck, then drop me a line, the egg was the last board that i shaped and it's got my shaping decal on it and the hamilton has six ounce written on the stringer, they not exactly white thrusters these two boards stick out and will show up somewhere.
Thanks to the crew that turned up last week to have a chin wag and a beer with Neal Purchase, the guy knows his stuff and after spending a week on the south coast surfing with Mackie and Garth Dickenson the reports are that his boards go off as if we didn't know that already.
Below are some boards that have turned up in the last couple of weeks and there are some more quaility used boards in the last couple of pics.
Sea Surfboards custom 5'9" double flyer quad fish for Marcus the McNeil tint/pigment art is out of this world.
Here's Stevan with his second Sea Surfboards DT model the guy loves em and when they look like this then why not.
Paul Hutchinson from Bear Surfboard's is fast becoming my favourite shaper his boards at the moment are coming out filthy, this egg at 6'4" x 20 3/4" x 2 3/4" is just out of this world and the tint job is spectacular, if you like them eggy then you gotta check this out.
Custom 6'7" Neal Purchase snubb for Simon going all the way to Thailand for some Sth East Asian missions, lucky boy.
Here's Paul Hutchinson's new hybrid at 6'10" x 20 3/4" x 2 3/4", a very special board for those who want the best of both worlds.
Matt with his new 6'6" Mackie single fin, such clean lines for decent waves.
Happy Jan with his 6'0 Rabbidge 4play.
Here's a find a 6'8" x 19 3/4" x 2 5/16" Neal Purchase wandering albatros, volane bottom, rails and majority deck with custom pinlines it's been ridden twice and cost the guy $1300 new it's going for $900, now thats a fucking bargin.
6'2" x 20" x 2 5/8" Sea Surfboards single fin purple pigment deck and rails yellow tint bottom, it's got a couple a shatters on the rails and some heal marks on the deck she's going for $650.
I've also got a bunch of copies of One California Day on dvd just in and my movie review is two thumbs up.

Hi my name's Ben and i have an addiction, i can't look at a board without the curiosity of it's preformance getting the better of me and reaching for a cake of wax and convincing myself that i'll just have one surf and i won't even put pressure on my back foot so she won't dent and that i must know how it goes. Here's the run down of my surfing week.
Sunday : very small rights out North Bondi 7'0" x 22" x 3" South Coast Slot Machine single fin.
Monday : chest high lefts out Bronte 6'1" x 20 3/4" x 2 5/8" Mackie 2+1 snubb.
Tuesday : small clean lefts South Bondi 7'2" x 21 5/8" x 3" Takayama NR3.
Wednesday : head high lefts out bronte 6'5" x 20 1/8" x 2 5/8" Hillbilly double stinger 5 fin bonzer.
Thursday : head high lefts out Bronte 7'3" x 21 1/2" x 2 3/4" Billy Hamilton bat tail quad.
So as you can see i'm in serious trouble my surfing stays at the same level but my surfboard appreciation grows and grows with every surf.
There are some new boards to report on featured below and also a happening this week, on wednesday arvo the 14th from 4 or 5pm Neal Purchase jnr will be in the store showing off his quiver and going through some of the boards he has been shaping so call on in for a beer and some peanuts and a chat to one of the nicest and talented surfer/shapers around. I'd be stoked to see you all down here.
Neal Purchase jnr has been hard at work here's a batch of his snubb's 6'6", 6'2" and a smokin' 5'10", while i was in Byron a mate of mine was tearing up Lennox on one of these suckers.
The decks look cool too.
Custom order snubb for Reg, gotta love the beer tint.
A midlength special 8'0" x 22" x 3" Takayama NR3 with the most glorious red tint.
Now i had a demo of the new Rabbidge 4 play in store for a week or two and it was ridden by four guys who all ordered one and thats no bullshit, they are meant to fly with heaps of drive and enough looseness to make it interesting, i didn't even get a chance to have a go of the demo so i've got eye's for one of these there's a 6'2", 6'4" and 6'6".
Here's somthing i havn't had in for a while and thats some Rabbidge mini mals and i'm mad to of not had some in these two in 7'6" and 7'2" are filth definately not your backpacker piece of shit that other store's peddle, these are rock'n'roll mid length crowd beaters.
Rabbidge made one of these quad 8' for himself and has been raving about it so he made on for the shop, i always like it when a shaper put's somthing they'er into onto the floor of the store, at the very least you know it's gonna fuckin work. This one's 8'1" x 22" x 3".
This is Robert and this is what he said when he picked up his 6'6" Van Straalen micro, "Surfing is my religion, Six Ounce is my temple and Ben Lucas is my Mother Teresa, saving lost souls of surfing mediocity". Thinking along the same lines as Robert then come on down and take your shoe's off at the door!
A sweet 6'4" Takayama egg with the most pale blue spray ever.
I've ended up with a batch of good quality used boards that are too good for the outside rack, so i'm putting them up here. Here's a 6'1" Sea single fin egg going for $575, bearly a scratch on her and a 5'8" McCoy potbelly with a bearly a heal mark on her, a steal at $750, she walked out the door for just under a grand.
5'8" Takayama quad fish surfed twice was $1220 new she's now $920 and a Morning of the Earth quad at 5'10" going for $600.
And finally the fruity 6'0" Mackie extreame single fin egg going for $750, just waxed and surfed twice.

30/4/08
It's been awhile but i do have excuse's, yes i was away and yes the surf was good, no better then good, so i was a bit lax about getting back into work and there were technical difficulties, which once i was inspired halted me from getting into my site to express my views on surfing and the surfing industry however one eyed they might be.
So the waves have been great with some more on the boil right now and there have been some new boards pass thru the doors, i'll post some pictures now and there's another batch arriving tomorrow so i'll post some more up then.
Here's the part of the ultimate quiver for you a 6'4" twin keel fish and a 7'4" classic pin both by Van Straalen and both heading to the very lucky Peter down in vico.
A 6'4" classic quad fish with the new Van Straalen fin templates.
6'0" stringerless hydro hull fish, Dick is still the shaper pushing the the fish design to it's outer boundries.
Here's somthing special Jason "big dog" got this 5'6" shrunk down Takayama model T made for his son Kalan, thats pretty fuckin cool.
ben
3/4/08
(Just for a second imagine that you've already seen the pictures of the boards below, then read this blurb, maybe i should of written this at the end?).
Bang, bang, bang !!! How'd ja like those apples. What a bullshit batch of boards, the Van Straalen's are so fucking fresh for a guy thats been making boards since the 60's, try coming up with sweet sweet boards like that outa China week in week out you soul sucking pricks. The filthy one off's from Mackie, Simon Jones and Rabbidge are some of the sickest boards i've felt in ages all three shapers have taken a classic template and just tweaked them a tad to produce such contempory surfboards that would send your precious surfing experience and blast it to fucking Timbuktoo. And to that rock star of a shaper Dain Fucking Thomas, the guy just keeps pushing out the absolute filth, the two logs that are customs are out of this world some of the finest crafted glide machines thru the doors, and the 6'10" semi gun (which is also a custom) gave me a serious case of the drools, if you want a board that will reignite the flame or make it burn like a bush fire, then save up your pennies and get yourself one of Dain's boards.
Now you can look at the photo's.
The latest in The Van Straalen Aviso range is in it's the 6'1" double flyer quad, yep thats right hollow carbon fibre and somthing a litt;e more classic then the Aviso a 6'2" single flyer swallow tail single fin, in the fire engine red tint.
Decks.
5'10" classic keel fish and 5'7" classic quad fish in a lime green tint.
Bottoms.
Here's one thats been hanging round for a while and needs a home a Van Straalen limited edition Spirit of the Sea 5'10" single fin, it's got a couple of pressure dings on the deck and she's going for a steal at $750.
6'0" Van Straalen epoxy classic quad fish.
Simon Jones shaped Morning of the Earth single flyer swallow tail quad.
Mackie 5'11" diamond tail 2+1 vsm (very special model) how's the subtle resin swirl on the deck.
The latest thing from Rabbidge the Fourplay, it's a quad fin 6 channel bottom, prepare for take off.
The custom Dain logs, behind those boards are a couple of heads with massive grins.
And the 6'10" semi gun tackle the bigger stuff with style.

Things are happening, the world is in that state of flux that happens when the seasons change. The weather and waves don't know what to do, it blows onshore for half a day then swings offshore in the arvo, swells die off in the morning only to pulse again by dusk giving us signs of hope as we sleep that only disappear when the waves are checked in the morn. But the offshore pulsing moments give an insight of the winter's potential that keep us going, ah the mind fuck that is surfing, constantly living in hope.
Here's some new sticks that came through the door this week as well as some clothing from Paul Mcneil's lable Munter thats worth a look with some funky tee's and hoodies. On the news front Malcolm Campbell of bonzer surfboards fame is coming to OZ in early april to do some shaping and set up distribution for his boards, if you want to check out his boards try www.bonzer5.com, his boards will be avalilble here but if you want a custom off Malcolm then put in an order in the next couple of weeks. Also West have realeased there new range of winter wetties that are in store at the moment get in for one before the chill sneaks up on ya.
Van Straalen classic quad fish from 5'5" to 6'3", their so hot right now.
5'5" and 5'10" Takayama fish with some sweet resin work.
The aviso 5'10" Van Straalen carbon this one got a red tint in the carbon thats hard to see through this pic it looks so good in the flesh, the reports on these are off the hook.
Here's a used Sea fish 5'9" that only has some heel dents on the deck, new Dain's fish are going for $1250 this one's a steal at $800, drop me a line if your keen.
McNeil's clothing range.
